Phew! August was yet another fully booked month with guests arriving from all over the world. We met some lovely people from Israel, Italy, France, America, Bulgaria, Australia and Canada to name just a few places. It’s always great to chat with guests and get to know their holiday plans; some plan their trip for months whilst others just decide on their itinerary when they arrive. We are looking forward to seeing what September will bring.

A new award! There was much excitement amongst our team when we were announced as the winner of the 2023 Best Guest House in Scotland award, Lux Life Resorts & Retreats. To receive this award, after all the hard work our team has invested, really was the icing on the cake.

Our 2nd wedding! Another fantastic wedding; Kristen and Seymour booked the house exclusive use for the weekend and filled it with friends and family to celebrate their special occasion. The weather wasn’t as kind as June so the ceremony took place in the dining room. The breakfast tables and chairs were moved out and in came the wedding chairs, a giant metal hoop decorated with the most beautiful flowers and a seat for the brides sister who played the harp. It was a really stunning ceremony.

Our 1st wedding! This month was really exciting as we hosted our first Dungallan wedding. Our bridal couple, Alex and Elliott booked the house exclusive use for the weekend and with the help of family and friends, had the most fantastic weekend getting married, spending some much needed downtime together and meeting up with friends they haven’t seen for so long. The weather was exceptional, a heatwave in Scotland!

Kings Coronation! We hosted a lovely group of 21 ladies from Oban’s Inner Wheel to celebrate the Kings Coronation as well as the clubs 70th birthday with a tasty afternoon tea. The ladies had a fantastic time enjoying the treats in the dining room and then making the most of the fabulous weather in the garden. A great day was had by all.

Afternoon teas! This month saw our homemade afternoon teas really take off with available dates hard to find. Our chef tirelessly created a range of homemade cakes, trifles and mousses to give guests something extra special.

We are open! We re-opened our doors this month for the start of our 2nd season. During the winter, we took the house through the 2nd phase of refurbishment which included the bathrooms and the ‘honeymoon suite’, McCaigs Tower Suite.

The bathroom floorplans were radically changed, removing the old baths and creating large, power showers, complimented by modern, Victorian style tiles, mirrors, mirror lights and contrasting colours from the Farrow & Ball range.

The McCaigs Tower Suite involved complete re-configuration of the existing tower room and knocking through to the previously unused attic area. With planning permission granted for 2 large, picture Velux windows in the roof, the en-suite quickly became the space to take your breath away. The Suite was designed with calming colours from the Farrow & Ball range, a feature ‘garden’ wall, a range of seating areas to take full advantage of the uninterrupted views and soft, tactile fabrics to complete the space.
